Smith Mathews is the Founder, Brewmaster and Managing Member of Southbound Brewing Co. Smith got his start in college working for SweetWater Brewing Co doing everything from packaging to marketing events. After graduating from Georgia Tech, he attended the Siebel Institute of Technology where he received a degree in Brewing Science and Technology. Smith later returned to SweetWater as a Brewer. After finishing his MBA from Georgia Southern University, Smith and his good friend Carly headed to Savannah to open Southbound, where he’s been making delicious beers since!
Pratt Mathews joined Southbound Brewing Company in January 2015 with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing. Pratt began home brewing while in college. He enjoys all aspects of his job, from brewing to working with distributors in order to make and distribute the best quality craft beer in the southeast. Pratt’s hobbies include tinkering with vintage cars and fishing.
Jeremy joined the Southbound team in 2015 as a taproom ambassador and has since worked his way up to Lead Brewer.
McKenzie moved from the mountains of North Georgia down to the south in search for creativity and a different way of life. She graduated from Georgia Southern University with a degree in Journalism, but fell in love with marketing and social media. Aside from writing and marketing, McKenzie is passionate about photography and started her own business in 2015. In her spare time you can find her taking pictures of anything and everything, shopping and hanging out downtown with her friends.
Randy is living a dream come true working for Southbound. He has spent a ton of time in the service industry culminating in a degree from the Culinary Institute of America, where he graduated top of his class, getting awards for highest GPA and for excellence in management. He has also been home brewing beer since 2008, and dreamed of working in a brewery ever since. He tends to be as well rounded as possible, so in the world of alcohol he has also worked at a winery, gone to beer school, bartending school, and wine school, and currently holds first level certificates from both The Guild of Sommeliers and (the beer equivalent) The Cicerone program. Remember there are no bad drinks, find what makes your mouth sing! Prost, Santé, Na zdrowie, Cheers!
I was born and raised in Savannah, Ga. From Statesboro to Savannah - I’ve spent seven years in the service industry where I was a bartender at very high volume establishments. I’m confident I know the ins and outs of being successful behind the bar. I loved my craft, but I was eager to try my hand on the other side of the industry. Southbound Brewing Co. gave me the chance to prove myself, and I was lucky enough to accept the South Georgia Sales Representative position.
Kayla was born and raised in upstate New York. After graduating from Siena College with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, she decided to try out southern living in 2011 and moved to Charleston, SC. Kayla has worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years and her job eventually led her to Columbia, SC where she was the GM of a restaurant for 5 years. She decided she wanted to challenge herself with a new career and joined the Southbound team as the SC/NC sales rep.
Alex grew up in Birmingham, AL and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2018, where he received his degree in biomedical sciences. He worked in clinical immunology research at UAB before getting married and moving to Savannah in November 2019. When he's not in the Southbound Brewing laboratory, feel free to talk to him about music, golf, or the latest news on yeast strains (actually that's confidential). He can scientifically confirm that Mountain Jam yields positive impacts upon one's health and well-being.
Originally from a small town in Ohio made his way to Savannah, GA in 2010. Yes, another Ohio person that moved to Savannah. By day he is a teacher and has been working part time as a brand ambassador and bar tender for the tap room since the summer 2014.
Dustin Price came to Savannah in 2018 by way of a little town called Mobile, Alabama. He’s a man who enjoys the simple pleasures in life: great beer, well-written songs, and a good time. When he’s not serving flights in the taproom, you can find him downtown playing shows at the local rock clubs. While not a doctor or scientist, he’s strongly convinced that Mountain Jam yields positive impacts upon one’s health and well-being.
Brew Cat came to us from the local shelter and slowly crawled into our hearts as Southbound's full time security and pest control. Although he's cute, he's clawed and dangerous. He's got a job to do that he takes pretty seriously!
