Meet The Crew

Smith Mathews
Brewmaster & Managing Partner

A native to Statesboro, Georgia, Smith is a Founder and Brewmaster of Southbound Brewing Company. Smith earned his undergraduate degree in Business Administration from The Georgia Institute of Technology while working at Sweetwater Brewing Company throughout college. He started in the back of the house, working on the bottling line but later joined the events and marketing staff of Sweetwater's tap room.

After experiencing all facets of the brewing industry, Smith was accepted into the fall 2009 class of The Seibel Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois and Doemens Academy in Munich, Germany. After obtaining an International Diploma in Brewing Technology from the World Brewing Academy, Smith returned to Sweetwater as one of their brewers and simultaneously started working on his MBA. Smith was later hired on as the Head Brewer and first employee of a start-up brewery, moving his brewing career to Charleston, South Carolina.

Carly Wiggins
Marketing & Sales Director - Co-Founder

A native to Statesboro, Carly also attended college at The Georgia Institute of Technology. She received two degrees in Industrial Design and Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. Carly began working for Sweetwater Brewing Company in 2007 doing marketing, events, and promotions. After many years of experience with Sweetwater, Carly joined a startup brewery with Smith in South Carolina as head of Marketing and Events in early 2011. As co-founder, Carly is the Marketing and Sales Director for the company.

Pratt Mathews
Production Operations Manager

After growing up in Statesboro, Pratt attended Valdosta State University where he studied Business Administration with a focus in Marketing. Having a passion for unique brews, Pratt had been waiting to step on board for some time. This guy can be found kayak fishing, duck hunting or just about anything involving the outdoors!

Natalie Alexander
Tour & Event Manager

Natalie was raised in the heart of the country, Kansas City. She made her way to the South after falling in love with Savannah and received her BFA in Advertising Design at SCAD. By the love of beer, beach and music, she found her way into the home of Southbound. Join her for a taste and tour sometime and keep your eyes peeled, she’s a tiny one.

Colleen Stanczykiewicz
South Carolina Sales Representative

Colleen was born and raised in Chicago where she developed a serious love for food, fine bourbon and Polish vodka, and exploring all the little ethnic neighborhoods and restaurants she could find. She traded that in to finish up her degree in Biology and Environmental Studies at the College of Charleston. While living life in the Low Country, Colleen was introduced to the world of craft beer and started to pursue every different type of suds she could get her hands on. This dedication to brew exploration led her to a job at a small local brewery where she could learn while getting her beer for free! You can find her searching for the best dive bars around the southeast, heading to the mountains for a long weekend, or bumming around the beaches hunting for shark teeth. Good luck tracking her down, she may just buy you a beer!

Douglas Galloway
South Georgia Sales Representative

Douglas was born and raised in middle Georgia and moved to Savannah as soon as he could.  He prefers to enjoy his craft beers by a campfire after a good day of hiking and climbing, but you're just as likely to bump into him enjoying one at a music festival or little beach bar.  Find him anywhere in the Southeast for for some good conversations and maybe he'll buy you a Southbound brew. (Or at least let you buy him one!)

Jason Fusco
Greater Atlanta Sales Representative

Jason’s long strange trip began in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but he grew up in the concert venues and sports stadiums of Atlanta.  Graduating from the University of Georgia, he spent as much time exploring the Georgia Theater and the beer culture of the Classic City as he did on campus.  After graduation, he followed his father’s footsteps into the beer industry.  If he was stranded on a desert island all he would need was beer, Grateful Dead concert bootlegs, and you could probably leave him right there.

Alex Breard

Alex is originally from Baltimore, Maryland.  He graduated from Clemson University.  Which is obviously better than some technical schools in Georgia. While attending Clemson, Alex worked on the packaging line at Heavy Seas (formerly Clipper City).  Following graduation, Alex attended The Siebel Institute of Technology where he earned an International Diploma in Brewing Technology and where he met Smith.  After brewing in several Brewpubs, Alex headed back down South and got on board with Southbound Brewing Company.

Chris Geerlings

Chris was born and raised in Holland, Michigan, but headed out West to enjoy the mountains and also to earn degrees from University of Colorado and Colorado School of Mines.  An avid home brewer, he moved to Savannah several years ago and has been immersed in the local craft beer scene ever since.  He currently brews small batch and experimental beers destined for Southbound's tasting room--come by for a tour and try one!

Jeremy Hammons
Cask Master & Pilot Batch Coordinator

Jeremy was born in Louisville, Kentucky, an area of the country more known for bourbon, horses, fried chicken, and baseball bats than beer.  It wasn’t until his move to Auburn, AL (War Eagle!) in 2005 that he really got to see what the southeast beer culture was really all about and immediately fell in love with the industry.  In 2009, he moved to Savannah with his wife, Cara Ann, and their 4 cats.  A budding home brewer, Jeremy joins the team at Southbound with more than 12 years of customer service in the musical instrument sales industry under his belt.  When he’s not doing tours at the brewery, you’ll usually find him enjoying a concert or playing drums for his band, The Train Wrecks.  As Jeremy always likes to point out, he is a beer geek, not a beer snob.

Jasmine Moore
Brand Ambassador

Jasmine was born and raised right here in Savannah. A country gal at heart, this Hophead joins our crew with some wild experiences, including working as a Critter Cleaner for Trapper Jack and ramblin' around outside with her pup! Since finding a home with Southbound, Jasmine has fun munching on fresh spent grain and dreaming up perfect food pairings for our brewlicious creations. Swing in for a tour with this beer geek and she'll have you hooked  on our craft, for sure.

Alex Lowry
Brand Ambassador

Alex was born and raised in Elmore, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Toledo with a double major in History and Secondary Education and made the move to Savannah in 2010. He is a full time high school teacher here in Savannah and works part time for the brewery giving tours and serving wonderful craft beer. Alex has been home brewing and enjoying beer tastings with his friends for the last couple of years. Serving customers great craft beer, giving tours, and answering questions about Southbound and the craft beer industry is a fantastic job to have.

Adam Hower
Brand Ambassador

Adam hails from Snellville, GA, where he originally pursued a fine arts degree but in 2012 he made the decision to leave the Atlanta area and make the move to Savannah where he currently attends Savannah State University and is working towards a degree in accounting. Adam comes from a large family of craft beer/spirits enthusiasts, and enjoys carrying on this tradition.

Willie Longo
Brand Ambassador

Born in the town of brotherly love (Philadelphia ) but was raised in the south (Atlanta). He is a bike enthusiasts and you can almost always see him on two wheels. He just moved to Savannah after two years in the golden state (Oakland) where he ran a bike shop and build custom furniture. He currently is a full time carpenter at a local wood shop aside from the brewery. If you ever see him around he'll surely put a smile on your face.

Kristian Stojek
Brand Ambassador

Kristian was born in Shawnee Mission, Kansas. After making a couple pit stops in Pennsylvania and Texas, he eventually made his way into Savannah where he received his degree in Graphic design and Printmaking from SCAD. After he graduated, he couldn't stand to leave so he decided to call Savannah home and open up a design studio right in the heart of downtown. When Kristian isn't at the brewery working on our chalkboard or serving Southbound beer, he is at home brewing his own batch. Or two.

Brew Cat
Exterminator & Security

Brew Cat came to us from the local shelter and slowly crawled into our hearts. Although he's cute, he's clawed and dangerous.  He's got a job to do, so we don't recommend playing with him!
